The Rural Voice, 1982-09, Page 48Grey County Federation of Agriculture Newsletter Bruce and Grey federations losing secretary Mary MacDonald The bad news at the July meeting was the resignation of Mary MacDonald as secretary. Mary has been a very capable secretary treasurer and 1 will miss her. Hanover is a long way from my home and Mary could be depended on to keep everything up to date. Peter Mason for Canfarm was present to update the members on the progress of Canfarm. The chequeing system is also a record system as is the deposit slip. He also explained the computer program. Rural Voice has been sold to Sheila Gunby and Bev Brown. The deadline for copy is August 9, September 13, and October 11 Doug Gowanlock, fieldman for Grey and Bruce reported on the membership drives in Grey. With one more days canvas, chances are slim of having enough members to retain our 4th region. Many directors were behind in the farm work and couldn't go out canvassing. The OFA report was given by Bill Pullen, Murray Clarke and Clay Schwegler who attended the OFA meeting for Oscar Tyson. OFA has a membership Incentive Program to run from July 21 to September 18. Teams must be registered by August 15. The proposed Property Taxation is on hold and definitely will not come into effect in 1983. A letter was received from Gisele Ireland, OFA Public Relations, outlining plans for a bus tour to different farm locations. Our Public Relations Committee will meet to make plans. Also they will deal with the Federation Survey Paper which should be published prior to the Annual Meeting. The Finance Committee will meet at the same time. Drastic action may have to be taken to alleviate our financial problems. Some townships are still on the grant system even though we tried to get them on the levy and some townships aren't paying anything toward Grey's expenses. Bruce and Grey executives met at Hanover to discuss the coming hydro corridor. When the Huron Bruce transmission line was built, a committee was formed after the route was chosen with one representative from each township involved. Each farmer involved was asked for a financial contribution to help with hearings, lawyers, etc. The Committee was voluntary. The last day for appeals was August 10. Ruth Hamill read the Education Tape re Agri Bonds by Ralph Barrie which will be on our local radio stations. The Regional Meetings will be held in mid-September with East and North regions having a joint meeting and South East and South West having a joint meeting. Delegates to the OFA Annual Convention will be chosen at this time also. The Annual meeting, banquet and dance is October 23 at the Flesherton Community Centre. There is no August meeting. The next meeting is September 22 at the OMAF Board Room, Markdale at 8 P.M.
