Forest waste into food
The University of Waterloo will be up to
S2 -million richer thanks to research done
by Murray Moo -Young, a professor of
chemical engineering.
Dr. Moo -Young's technology for con-
verting agricultural and forest wastes into
animal food supplements was recently
licenced to Innotech, a French company
that plans to establish conversion plants in
Europe.
The process uses fermenting containers
and a fungus to break down indigestible
husks leaves and wood into a high-quality
protein supplement for animals. The
licence fees and royalties will be paid to
the university. The process is used in
Canada by Envirocon Ltd. of Vancouver.
