The Rural Voice, 1982-04, Page 19Managing the farm finances A course on financial management, directed by the Centralia College and funded by the provincial government, has been very successful. The course has been running for several weeks, at Belmore Community Centre every Tues- day, and has boasted an average attendance of thirty people. Each day deals with a different aspect of managing the farm finances and the keeping of adequate records. Cash flows and bookkeeping on an accrual method were of interest to everyone. Every farmer was interested in where he was going financially and what he had done, and the systems demonstrated had this information readily available. The importance of wills and the different farming operations have been covered. The information given on joint tenants and tenants in common and corporations was valuable in assessing how to set up wills. The course offers something for everyone, including how to do your own tax returns. Once explained, the whole operation is not as difficult as it appeared. The course has several days left with some topics which will help the farmer be a better financial manager. Workshop on self-esteem If you want to attend a different kind of workshop and feel really good about it afterwards, then plan to attend the Self -Esteem Workshop on Saturday, April 17th at the Bruce Township Community Centre at Underwood (Bruce County). Registration is at 9:00 a.m. and the program includes lunch and refreshments at breaks. You must pre -register for this workshop by sending your name, address and telephone number to: Marlene Monkman. R.R. 1, Dobbinton. Ontario NOH ILO before April 3rd. The sponsoring group is the Planning Committee for Rural Women and they have engaged Craig Peters of the Interfaith Pastoral Counselling, Kitchener as the resource person for the day. Beth Wolfe, a member of the Planning Committee, told Rural Voice that "Some of our Committee attended an evening self-esteem session which was led by Mr. Peters and we were very enthusiastic. "We feel that self-esteem is probably the most important factor determining how we feel about ourselves and others and how we cope and react to situations around us."
