In it the ministry urges the agricultural industry to make a strong effort to increase food production. Listen to the lofty ideals: — Canada has the potential to produce two-thirds more food than we do now by the year 2000. — annual cash receipts could grow from $15 billion to S35 billion in that time. — thousands of new jobs. — Canada's balance of payments enhanced. Contrary to popular belief. this is not a new policy but was already proposed by the ministry in 1975. Of course, the ministry recognizes there are obstacles to overcome. One is inadequate research. Another is price instability which causes farmers to produce Tess because of the risk of low prices.
