ONTARIO NOM TELEPHONE (519) 482-9642 NE WSLE TTER 1 LC Huron Federation Meeting Members Meeting Huron County Federation of Agriculture Thursday, October 22, 1881 OMAF The minutes of the last meeting were passed as printed In the Rural Voice on a motion by Jim McIntosh, seconded by Walter Elliott. Carried. The passing of the bills and correspondence were referred to the next Executive meeting on a motion by Tony McQuail, seconded by Andy Durand, Carried. The reason for thle being so any Interested persons could get home to watch the 11 o'clock news on which the lettere Huron County had written to Prime Minister Trudeau were being presented to Finance Minister McEachern, there was a total of 1,792 letters presented to him, 1,037 being from Huron County, the others from Wellington, Bruce and Perth. Elections for 4 Executive Directors were then held with Fieldman Bill Crawford running them assisted by Secretary, Carol Finch. Nominations for the Directors were: Bob Coleman, Brenda McIntosh, Doug Garniss, Ken Scott, Bill Fear, Walter Elliott, John Nesbit, Merle Gunby, Andre Durand, Barry Mason, Art Bolton, Paul Klopp, Kevin Kale. These persons all declined In exception of Paul Klopp, Bob Coleman, and Walter Elliott. Jim McIntosh declared we re -open nominations so we could try to elect another Director. The second slate of nominations were: Ken Scott, Doug Gamin, Art Bolton and Brenda McIntosh. Ken Scott, Art Bolton and Brenda declined therefore leaving Doug Garnlse the 4th Executive Director. RESOLUTIONS TO BE PRESENTED ATOFA CONVENTION: 1. from McKillop Twp. Federation o1 Agriculture, moved by Art Bolton, seconded by Ken Scott. Carried. WHEREAS 1. OFA membership fee Is now under review 2. The present discount for automatic payment Is based on information which is out of date for example: OFA is now doing their own computer work rather than using a bank computer. 3. Monies received from a cash payment Is worth as much as monies from automatic payments, If It arrives on time and doesn't require a second notice or follow-up visit. 4. A certain amount of work Is required to service automatic accounts which change banks etc. 5. It Is possible to program a computer to serve cash accounts at a cost similar to an automatic account. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the OFA give the membership discount to all who renew their membership on or before the date due, also that these renewals be treated as renewals rather than new memberships. Resolution 02 moved by John VanBeers, seconded by Alfred Etzler. Carried. WHEREAS land banking has been used in the past In the form of ARDA and WHEREAS as It Is presently practiced In Saskatchewan very successfully and WHEREAS It would bea means of keeping control of agricultural land by Canadians and also a means of young farmers getting started THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that OFA investigate the Saskatchewan plan, and see If a similar plan could be used In Ontario. Resolution 03 - moved by Doug Fortune, seconded by Jim McIntosh, Carried. WHEREAS programs carried out by County Federations are a necessary part of the OFA setup for various reasons Including: 1. providing grass root opinion and Ideas to OFA 2. providing local members services 3. training members for OFA positions 4. providing PR. for OFA 5. recruiting new members 6. maintaining existing members. AND WHEREAS some counties are unable to carry out these programs as effectively as possible due to lack of finances. AND WHEREAS It Is becoming Increasingly difficult to collect levies or grants from Twp. Councils for various reasons.
