Farmers write in protest
to Prime Minister
As of Sept. 30, 250 ISM's have responded, by returning their
letter for Prime Minister Trudeau, to the Hanover office. 1300
letters were mailed out in Bruce County, and it is hoped that many
more will yet be returned. We cannot foretell what effect these
letters will have on our government but certainly, many people are
looking at the numbers who respond as a barometer of the
economic crisis facing farmers. Anyone wishing to sign a letter or
get extra copies for their friends to sign, please contact the
Hanover Office, 364-3050.
In response to a request from the county milk committee. Bruce
Federation will donate $25 to the Dairy Princess Competition
Fund.
Reports were given at the Sept. board meeting from: the Hydro
Committee re: route selection on proposed lines from the Bruce as
well as injurious affection settlements;
--Farmers Week re: Federation Day will be called Farm & Home
Management Day;
--Membership Committee re: Bruce County has increased their
membership from 1261 to 1303, a plus of 42 ISM's.
OFA ON ADVISORY COMMITTEE
OFA will initiate action toward implementing the Advisory
Committee to the Ontario Waste Management Corp. and OFA will
have representation on this committee. The board expressed the
concern that this committee must have the power to make
information public.
A resolution was also passed that OFA should contact all banks
asking them to adopt a position similar to the Bank of Montreal to
lobby the federal government to make Small Business
Development Bonds available to all farmers and small businesses.
CONVENTION
The OFA Annual Convention November 23-26 has taken as its
