Confidence
harming in Western Ontario is going through a very rough
time. Speakers at the recent Huron County Federation of
Agriculture annual meeting said strongly the farm community is
having it s worst period in their memory. [And these weren't
young 'uns talking].
And although the pages of this month's Rural Voice certainly
pay attention to that [see what Grey and Bruce farmers told
Eugene Whelan, on page 15] we've tried to focus the magazine
on what's positive too.
Like the common-sense, hard-working reponse new dairying
regulations have received from Perth milk producers. And the
profiles of approachable farm writers like Kevin Cox, Gord
Wainman and Jim Rc mahn who are telling the farmer's story to
the rest of the population. It's interesting we think that all three
told Rural Voice about their roots in the farm community and all
three welcome news tips and communication from the grass
roots. That's you folks. Cox even went so far as to give out his
phone number!
The same thing applie$ to Rural Voice. This magazine likes to
hear from its readers: when they like what we write, when they
strongly disagree with a story or when they have a story idea
they think is just right for this Western Ontario farm magazine.
Those of us who write for Rural Voice pride ourselves on
in-depth stories, investigative, people -oriented, about farming in
our area. We need to hear from you when we're off the track,
right on or when you've got suggestions for us. Right now for
example, we're searching, hard, for a farm couple who'll talk,
anonymously if need be, about how it feels to see your
hard-earned equity in farming going down the drain.
Interested? Drop a line to Susan White, care of Rural Voice. It'll
be treated in strictest confidence.
Confidence. That's something we hope a lot of readers have in
Rural Voice. That's a quality that has to be earned and we hope,
with your help, to go right on working at it.
See you in December.
