At the end of a summer that [keep your fingers crossed] gives
every appearance of producing a good crop [see Rural Voice news
section fora four county crop update] this issue brings you news of
a fairly recent commodity in the area: sheep. For a look at
marketing and other difficulties local sheep producers face, see
writer Dean Robinson's story on page 10.
Our series on those helpful people at local OMAF [Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food] offices continues with Sheila
Gunby's profiles of the people who work with farmers in Huron
County. There's more informative help for farmers in a guest
column, by innovative Brussels area farmer Neil Hemingway, on
managing your time more effectively.
And this month Rural Voice has a fascinating profile of a
farmer who's worked all over the world but settled in this region,
Joe Moss of the Embro area.
Our Farm Family section has some of the best lamb recipes
we've seen anywhere [we keep hearing there's some interest in a
Rural Voice cook book: what do you think?]. And of course our
columnists Gisele Ireland with her terrific sense of humor and
Keith Roulston and Adrian Vos with some thought-provoking
comment, are back. Our Young Farmer section tells about some
Perth people who visited farms in Wales this year. And in our Up
and Coming page you'll read about lots of events of interest to the
farm community in Western Ontario.
Rural Voice, the magazine for the whole farm family, has
launched a campaign to sell more individual subscriptions. At the
same time, you can make money for your favourite charity. We'll
give local clubs and charitable groups $2 for each $5 Rural Voice
subscription they sell. Call us at 523-9646 for details. Perhaps you
know a farm family or a retired farmer who'd like Rural Voice as a
gift, a gift that comes 12 times a year. Send their names in to Rural
Voice at Box 10, Blyth, NOM 1HO, we'll send a gift card in your
name and bill you.
According to readers' comments we've gotten at agricultural
events we attend, you like the way Rural Voice reports the
western Ontario farm scene.
Will you help us to reach more subscribers by spreading the
word, and ifyou're involved with a local charity, earn some money
for your cause at the same time?
