Do you have 3 hours to give?
The regular directors' meeting of Grey County Federation of
Agriculture was held in the board room of OMAF, Markdale,
June 24. Bessie Saunders reported on a meeting in Barrie
regarding the Simcoe Plowing Match September 29 to October 3.
Each surrounding county is asked to donate $300 as well as
several volunteers for the refreshments and information booth. If
anyone can donate three hours would you contact Bessie
Saunders at 538-1338 or Mary MacDonald at 364-3050.
A motion was passed to give $300 to the Plowing Match.
A letter was received from the South Grey Aggregate group
requesting financial assistance.
A news release was received from OFA regarding the
Economic Council of Canada's attack on marketing boards.
Ralph Barrie stated that farmers are trying to survive in the face
of high interest rates and input costs, yet at the same time
they're being charged with profiteering.
John Giese gave the highlights of the OFA meeting. Bob
Leslie, in his report, said we have to get several new members to
qualify for the fourth region by July.
A survey by Members' Digest shows that 95 per cent read the
digest, 77 per cent used it and 60 per cent would miss it.
The annual meeting will be held in the Durham Legion on
October 23.
A request was received from Ontario Hydro regarding the
south western Ontario land study.
A delegate and an alternate were requested from Grey
Federation. Bruce Saunders will be the delegate and John Giese
the alternate.
John Giese was selling tickets for the Cattleman's banquet and
dance on July 30 in Durham.
Barry Howey asked about a resolution presented some time
ago about beaver damage.
He was asked to bring the resolution to the next meeting along
with information so that it could be dealt with.
A complaint was received from a former director regarding
mailing out of minutes. Since the minutes are for the directors'
use only, anyone wanting information should contact their
director or regional director.
There is no July meeting of Grey Federation. The next
directors' meeting will be August 26 at 8 p.m.
