Divorce from the family farm is topic
President Gerry Fortune chaired the meeting. The minutes of
the last meeting were approved as printed in the Rural Voice on a
motion by Walter Elliott, seconded by LouiseMarritt. Carried.
The guest speaker for the evening, Gay Stewart, a lawyer from
Stratford was introduced by Glen McMichael of Turnberry
Township.
Gay's topic was "Divorce from the Family Farm" and
"You've Come a Long Way, Baby". Some points she discussed
were property rights, possessions, etc. when a couple is divorced
or separated and a farming operation is involved. This was
followed by a question period on some of these topics, as well as
several other topics of interest to the audience. Miss Stewart was
thanked and presented with a small token of appreciation by
Louise Marritt, President of Turnberry Township.
Elaine Pym, from Perth and Huron OMAF offices gave a
rundown on the Agricrew Program in Perth and Huron for the
summer, June 22, Aug. 14. The students conte only in groups of
4, and are $90.00 a day for the group, provide their own
transportation and lunch.
President Gerry reported on the meeting which she and
several other Huron County residents had attended in Toronto at
the Constellation Hotel that afternoon. The meeting was

attended by 1100 farmers concerned about high interest rates
and low beef and hog prices. Eugene Whalen, Frank Miller, Bill
Davis and Lorne Henderson were all in attendance and each
spoke to the group. These four ministers are to meet with OFA
Executive tomorrow morning, to see if a solution can be found to
help the farmers.
WESTERN ONTARIO HYDRO STUDY RELEASE
Tony McQuail reported that he had finally received the study
which we have been waiting on since last fall. The government
wants us to study it and return it back by Sept. The following
resolution was made on a motion by Tony McQuail, seconded by
Doug Garniss. Carried
"Whereas the government of Ontario acting through the
Minister of Energy delayed the release of Ontario Hydro's report
on possible transmission routes out of Bruce Nuclear Power
Development for over 6 months
and whereas in the Royal Commission Electric Power Planning
recommendation 67, The commission noted the concern for
minimizing impact on high quality land
and whereas in Royal Commission Electric Power Planning
recommendation 63. the commission also stressed that there
