County Field Co -Ordinator and Mark Lapping, New Director of
New School of Planning and Development at U. of Guelph. Tony
Fuller and Julius Mage outlined to the group the effects and
results of the Absentee/Foreign Study in Huron County from
1975 to the present time. They showed a slide -tape of facts and
figures and how foreign/absentee ownership has doubled in
Huron since 1975. They also told of Future Investigations and
Studies to be done in Huron County in the near future as well as
other possible areas for investigation involving the effects
foreign or absentee ownership has on local stores, churches.
schools, land prices etc.
Mary Beth Mann of Grey Township th7nked the guests and
presented them with small gifts.
President Gerry Fortune told of sonic of the points of interest
discussed at a meeting in Chcsley with OFA Exec. members
present the night before. This was -a last minute meeting to
discuss interest rates with over 500 interested farmers in
attendance.
A proposal from the Properties & Land Use Committee was
brought forth as follows: "It is the decision of the Huron County
Land Use Committee that we support the Sheldon Ward Proposal
to clear 15 acres on their farm in Grey Township. It is our feeling
that to clear the piece of land will not create any adverse effect
on the environment around it because of the large amount of wet
land which will remain. The bush has little monetary value
because it is in our opinion scrub."
- motion by Merle Gunby, seconded by Tony McQuail to send a
letter to the Wards supporting them as follows:
1. HCFA affirms its support to the tree cutting by-law, in
principle.
2. We understand that only up to 15 acres are to be cleared to
square up fields.
3. We understand there will be at least 30 acres left on that
property. Carried.
