changes
to a
watercourse?
The waters of rivers, streams and creeks belong to everyone. Improper
use of the watercourses which carry these waters may result in the
following:
-irrigation and drainage problems for neighbours
-destruction of aquatic and wildlife habitat
-reduced recreational opportunities
-erosion and flooding problems
Whenever permanantely flowing watercourses are to be altered in any
way including damming, diverting, and channelization, Federal and
Provincial laws require that the approval of the Ministry of Natural
Resources be obtained.
As a first step in planning any work on a watercourse, contact us. Our staff
will be glad to discuss possible design and layout alternatives which will
minimize future problems for you, your neighbour and the public in
general.

become involved in farm organizations
and community affairs.
Responsibility will be sought by most
employees. To achieve job satisfaction,
an employee requires responsibility
according to his exhibited ability.
Competent employees leave their jobs
when the employer has not provided the
opportunity for responsibility.
The employer could use a work division
system. For example, if the employee
shows interest in cattle rearing, he might
wish to become responsible for that part
of the dairy operation. after becoming
completely familiar with the methods
employed on that farm.
It is important that farm employees
receive the status they deserve. Few
people want to be known as the 'hired
man' but many would welcome the
opportunity to be herdsman. herdsperson
or head of field operations. Employees
must warrant the titles given them. but
no one should have to resort to hired
man.
Hiring and motivating employees in
any industry can be a demanding
experience. However, it can also be very
satisfying to work with employees,
helping them attain their goals while they
understand, accept, and work towards
the goals the employer has established.
Farm employers are fortunate, yin that
they. because of the varied nature of the
business they operate. can provide,
better than most industries, an
opportunity for their employees to have a
satisfying job. JERRYKRAUTER
Skunks in the
barnyard can
mean rabies
Skunks are generally shy creatures.
who prefer to wander about out of the
public eye. So what can happen when one
of the black and white animals suddenly
turns up in the barnyard in broad
daylight? Health of Animals spokesmen
will tell you the skunk could mean
disaster in the barnyard since the animal
is among the prime carriers of rabies.
The disease, which can be transferred
to farm livestock, is usually spread by the
bite of a rabid animal like a skunk or fox.
Infection results if the saliva, blood, milk
or any other body fluid of an infected
animal enters a cut or scratch. In addition
to the two animals mentioned, the
disease is also spread by wolves, coyotes,
or domestic pets. When wild animals are
rabid, they lose their natural distrust of
man and other animals, and often attack
livestock in pastures or barns.
