AGRICULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH CUSO
LIVESTOCK TECHNICIANS, PAPUA NEW GUINEA:
The Department of Primary Industry of Gulf Province, requires two livestock technicians to assist in the development of livestock
production in the province. Duties will include giving technical assistance to livestock owners; planning, implementing and
overseeing livestock projects; monitoring outbreaks of livestock diseases and taking appropriate measures; preparing reports; and
coordinating with staff in other departments. A diploma or degree in agriculture with experience in animal husbandry is required.
POULTRY SPECIALIST, MOZAMBIQUE:
The National Centre for Small Species requires a poultry specialist to be part of a team based in the capital, Maputo. The
three-person team will be responsible for constructing and running a poultry farm, working on experiments in poultry nutrition,
preparing and giving courses on poultry production and assisting provincial centres and production units in communal villages. A
diploma or degree in agriculture and broad practical experience in poultry production is required
AGRICULTURAL EXTENSIONIST, COSTA RICA:
The Polytechnical Institute of Costa Rica is seeking an agriculturalist to evaluate existing extension methods used in Costa Rica
and suggest improvements and adaptations. Duties will also involve training members of the Information Office and other
government and non-government departments in extension methodology and in the publication of information. Main objective of
the Information Office is to combine research with practical application and training in the field and within the institute
Applicants should have an M.Sc. or Ph. D., preferably with three years' experience.
AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTORS, NIGERIA:
The School of Agriculture in Dambatta, Kano State, is seeking two agricultural instructors to teach students who will subsequently
return to their home areas to assist local farmers. Teachers in irrigation and water -use, agricultural mechanics and engineering
are particularly needed; other subjects to be taught include agricultural economics, agronomy, soils and soil conservation
agricultural education and extension, and entomology and plant diseases. Duties include development of a syllabus, teaching
materials and work experience programs for students, at least 16 hours of classes per week, and assistance with development of a
library. School facilities include two large, well-equipped laboratories and there will soon be a 200 -acre farm for research and
practical training. Applicants should have a degree in agriculture and farm experience.
CONTRACT; Two years.
SALARY: At local rates --low by Canadian wages but adequate for a reasonable Iifestyle.,Good fringe benefits and housing
