Brown. 1980 Membership Chairman. in recognition for
selling the most ISM memberships in Huron County in 1980.
HURON COUNTY FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE.
MONTHLY MEETING
In the absence of President Gerry Fortune. Vice -President
John VanBeers chaired the meeting.
The minutes of the January meeting were approved on a
motion by Tony McQuail, seconded by Albert Etzler. Carried.
Results of the three resolutions passed at that meeting. from
the OFA meeting were: #1 defeated, #2 passed #3 passed.
A motion by Andy Wiekowski, seconded by Merle Gunby, that
all bills be paid was carried.
CORRESPONDENCE:
1. Letter from Hugh Macauley re Hydro letter we sent to him.
2. Letter from Haldimand County thanking us for our support in
the South Cayuga Waste Site.
3. Letter from Doug Jamieson, principal at Centralia College
thanking us for our letter telling them •of the award we will
present to the 2nd highest graduating student in the Agricultural
Business Management program. They will notify us when it will
be held.
Andy Wiekowski reported on Stepen Twp. Annual Meeting
which is to be held Feb. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Stephen Twp. also held a
Membership Drive last week, which was slowed down
considerably because of the weather. However, they did get
some new members.
Merle Gunby spoke briefly on behalf on the OFA Members
Services Committee on Farm Family Group Life Insurance and
urged members to take advantage of it.
Jim McIntosh introduced George Klosler, guest speaker from
Oxford County and Chairman of OFA Environmental Committee.
His topic was "Farmers' Right to Farm" and the "Agricultural

Development and Protection Act." Mr. Klosler's talk was
followed by questions from the audience.
Mr. Klosler was thanked by Andy Wiekowski for his
interesting and informative discussion.
Brenda McIntosh asked the group how each had heard of
the meeting that night; by radio. Rural Voice, newspaper, word
of mouth or other? It was for a small survey she was doing.
Larry Dillon of Hullett Twp. approached the meeting with a
question on Insurance for Farni Buildings. It was decided he
should meet with John Nesbit and his Member Relations and
insurance committee after the meeting and possibly conte up
with a resolution for a future meeting .
A motion to adjourn by Bill Scott was seconded by John Arts.
Carried.
Win community betterment award
The West Huron Junior Farmers won the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture Community Betterment Award for
1980. To win this award the West Huron Junior Farmers raised
over $500. for an airpack for the Lucknow Fire Dept. They gave a
face lift to the Ashfield Conservation area. painted the shed and
cleaned up the beach. They entertained senior citizens at
Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, and raised 3500. for the Ontario
Heart Foundation. Four County Clubs competed for this award.
John Van Beers. 1st Vice -President of the Huron County
Federation presented the award at the Annual Junior Farmer's
Banquet in Blyth. Club reports were judged by Norman
Alexander. Don Pullen and Fred Haberer. (Cont. on page 35)
