hits the farming
community
Unemployment is hitting the farm
communities as well as the large urban
centres,according to Eric Smith from the
Canada Employment and Immigration
office in Goderich.
In the Huron County area, he said
industries like Archer's Farm Sales and
Services in Clinton have been seeing some
employment increases, but that most
others have suffered minor layoffs.
He also said that with the decrease in the
price of pork, many small scale swine
producers have been forced to go bank-
rupt.
John Gillespie from the Canada Employ-
ment and Immigration office in Exeter said
he hoped that the employment situation
would change with the gradual change in
interest rates and the cash crops harvested
in July. He said this may increase spending
and eventually employment.
One of last summer's Agrl-Crews helped one farmer to
catch up on a lot of odd Jobs — digging out the top of
the septic tank, removing an old fence and bringing In
the winter's supply of wood.
