Winners of the Rural Voice's kids' contest
After wading through the hundreds of entries in this year's
Rural Voice kids contest judges have finished the very difficult
job of selecting winners.
In many categories entries were extremely close in quality and
credit and thanks should go to all who entered. Prize winners,
who'll be receiving their cheque in the mail later this month are,
in order of placing:
Stories, ages 14-18, Celia Chandler, 14, RR3 Wingham; Lori
Ann Jamieson, 17, RR2, Lucknow; and Kendra Purdon, 15, RR3,
Wingham. An honourable mention was awarded to Ronda
Kuepfer, RR1 Newton.
Top story winners in the 9 to 13 age group are Jeromy Ten
Hag, 9, RR1 Auburn; Pat McCarthy, 10, RR1, Dublin; Milne
Gregor, 12, RR3 Auburn and honourable mentions to Mary
Anderson, 12, RR1, Bornholm and to Gavin McCanagen, 49 Mill
St., Clinton.
Prizes for stories written by those aged 5 to 8 go to Ann
Morton, Grade 1, Grey Central School; Darryl Morrison. Grade 1
Grey Central School and Tracy Finch, also of Grade 1, Grey
Central.
POEMS
Poetry prize winners, in the 14-18 age group, are Nancy
Penfound, 15, RR1, Auburn, Lori Hillman, 18, RR2, Atwood,
Michelle Battye, RR3, Walkerton and Penny Decker, 18, RR2,
Listowel.
Lynda Maloney, 12, of RR2, Gadshill won first prize for poets _
in the 9-13 age group. followed by Mike Essery, 9, 131
Rattenbury St., Clinton and Darlene Kuik, 12, RR7, Lucknow.
Honourable mentions go to Colleen Durnin, 12, RR2, Lucknow
and Joanne Morrison, 10, RR2. Gadshill.
Poetry winners in the 5 to 8 age group are Melanie Vermeer
and Peter MacDonald, Grade 1, Grey Central School, Kerri
Gingerich, 6, RR2 Zurich and James Fullerton, 8, RR3, Paisley.
An honourable mention goes to Andy Turner, Grade 4, Wallace
Central School.
ART
In the art competition judges awarded first prize in the 14 to 18
age group to Lorrie Reibeling, 18, RR2, Milverton and third priic•
to Bruce Barlow, RR3, Brussels.
Rose Ann Machan, Blyth Public School won first prize for ari
in the 9 to 13 age group, followed by David Pullen, 12. Box 715,
Clinton, Nancy Carmichael, c/o Don Pengelley, Dungannon; and
honourable mention to Tony Gingerich, Holyrood.
Top artists in the 5 to 8 age class were Mona Johnston, RRI,
Dungannon; Kevin Kuntz, 8, RR2, Mildmay; Cailin Rachel
Clarke, 6, RR5, Lucknow and honourable mention, Kevin
Hodder, Dungannon.
We've included as much of the prize winning art and stories as
we have room for in this month's Rural Voice. Congratulations to
all the winners, thanks to all the entrants, and we're sorry
everyone couldn't win.
