Village Squire, 1980-10, Page 23classical. In 1979, one of his works was
choreographed by Mauryne Allan of The
Mountain Dance Theatre, and performed
as "Dialogues" at the Dance Canada
conference in Waterloo, with Paul per-
forming the music. Paul's own favourite
composer is Claude Debussy, and among
bass players he particularly likes Ray
Brown and Bill Evans.
Both Aston and Forest plan to continue
their musical studies. Paul is currently
studying with Dave Young, bass player
customers over the autumn and winter
months. Both are very warm in their
praise. of the pleasant atmosphere The
Victorian Inn has created for them, and
they enjoy the chance to encourage new
performers, such as Jan Clark, a
Stratford pianist who plays in the
Rosewood Lounge at the Inn during lunch
and dinner.
Musicians from the Festival often drop
in to hear Candy and Paul, and oc-
casionally surprise guests from Toronto
and other cities come by and sit in on
Candy Forest says the pair are
"a quartette in disguise"
for Oscar Peterson, aid Candy will be
taking jazz piano and rebuilding her own
instrument, something she learned
through her training in piano tuning.
Although their studies this fall require
some commuting, both are enjoying life
in the Stratford area. They have seen
most of the 1980 plays and thoroughly
enjoyed the music of the Stratford Youth
Choir. They will be at The Victorian Inn
until next May, and are looking forward
to becoming better acquainted with area

Aston and Forest play at Stage One
Tuesday to Saturday until the end of the
theatre season; after November 8th their
hours will be nine until one, Wednesdays

There is always some regret when the
Festival closes for the winter, but this
year offers some consolation --Aston and
Forest's "But Beautiful" will remain to
add many pleasant notes to the cold
months ahead.
