This month Village Squire is full of good summer reading.
We've zeroed in on Bayfield, once a sleepy little summer resort
but now one of the busiest places on Lake Huron. Bayfield has a
great deal to offer the discriminating holidayer, whether for a
day or a longer stay. But Bayfield is also in transition and not
everyone likes the changes there. Jim Heer's up to date report
begins on page 3. And Huron County native Elaine Townshend
takes a look at Bayfield past, on page 6 of this month's Squire.
As well as its lakeside villages, Western Ontario is proud of its
fine summer theatre. London writer Herman Goodden captures
the excitement of an original play, now in the making at the Blyth
Summer Festival on artist and actor Jack McLaren, and a good
deal of the enthusiasm of the man himself. Read about his talk
with this remarkable man, beginning on page 8.
For the outdoor enthusiasts we have more excellent
campgrounds which Elaine Townshend scouted out for Village
Squire. And the history buff will enjoy Marion Zinn's article
about one of the area's forgotten towns, Dungannon, 125 this
summer.
You'll have a chance to harken back to the old days when
passenger liners cruised the Great Lakes with Alice Gibb's story
on the "ladies" of the lakes.
Readers looking for a quiet, non-commercial day trip will enjoy
travelling the back roads of North Huron with Sheila Gunby.
Squire's Table has found an excellent restaurant right in
downtown Grand Bend and we've got our regular columnists and
listings of places to go and things to see.
It's summer time, some say the best time, in Western Ontario.
With a little help from Village Squire, please enjoy it to the full.
