UP FRONT
This month Village Squire investigates the popular
phenomenon of ancestor hunting. Thousands of people all over
Western Ontario are looking for their roots, in church records, old
newspapers and town halls.
If you are one of them. or have had the urge to find out who
your antecedents were (in our experience this urge often
manifests itself after the birth of a grandchild), writer Susanne
Jones has talked to some loiral sources for genealogical research.
Make note too, of the opening of the Huron County Historical
Society's archives in the new county library headquarters in
Goderich, as mentioned in this month's Update column. There
should be help available there for those with Huron County
forefathers.
Rosemary Radcliffe, profiled in this issue by writer Alice Gibb,
ought to give any future descendants quite a job researching her
life. After winning prize as a youngster at this area's famous
Kirkton Garden Party, she's become a well-known Canadian
actress and comedienne, with stints on TV's King of Kensington
and a present role in Spring Thaw.
Theatre buffs will enjoy Jim Heer's look at the Stratford
Musical Theatre, a new group that's by and for local people. And
if you are a camper, you'll like Elaine Townshend's guide to
some of the region's interesting campgrounds, both public and
private. It'll be continued in next month's Village Squire
For fiction fans we've got a thriller, Murder in Utopia. As well,
Village Squire's columnists, Jim Hagarty, Yvonne Reynolds,
Keith Roulston and of course, Chief Ezra McGillicuddy, return
with some thoughtful. and funny looks at the world around them.
Next month Village Squire will profile Bayfield, the lakefront
village that boasts both an old atmosphere and the latest
facilities for shoppers and boaters.
