The Huron Country Playhouse in Grand
Bend has been awarded Special _ Project
grant of $1500 by the Canada Council for
the presentation of a Canadian play Free at
Last, a new comedy by Eric Nicol.
The grant will offset some of the costs of
the production which has its Ontario
premiere at the playhouse on August 7
(previews August 5-6) and plays until
August 16.
The comedy is about a recently separat-
ed man in his forties as he struggles with
the problems of male menopause and his
attempts to be "free at last."
Also at the playhouse this year a special
grant of $1,000 from the Ontario Touring
Arts Fund will supplement the costs of a
special, one night only performance of
Spring Thaw '80 on June 7.
FESTIVAL TICKETS AVAILABLE
The Stratford Festival has already
reached the $3 million mark in advance
ticket sales for the 1980 season of
productions.
Telephone orders are now being
accepted at the theatre and extra lines have
been added to accomodate increased
interest in this year's festival.
The box office has also extended its
hours, and is open Monday through
Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This year the festival's opening night is
June 9 and the season will continue
through to Nov. 8. This year 15
productions will be presented on the
Festival's three stages wtih stars including
Maggie Smith, Brian Bedford, Peter
Ustinov, William Hutt, Jessica Tandy and
Richard Monette.
HISTORY CENTRE IN LONDON
WELCOMES VISITORS
The London History Centre, housed in
Grosvenor lodge, is surrounded by history.
Located at 1017 Western Rd., the
mansion was built in 1853 by Samuel
Peters, in a Tudor Gothic style, typical of
upper class estates in London during the
mid -19th century.
The London History Centre will be open
from March 1 to June 30 this year, on
Thursdays through Sundays from 2-5 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to visit the grounds of
Gosvenor Lodge and to see the exhibit on
the history of London and its region.
No admission is charged, however, since
a fund raising campaign is currently under
way. Donations from all visitors are
welcome.
