In a telephone interview, Mr. Cosens
said he got most of his information from
newspaper clippings that had been saved
by his family and said that the pamphlet
putting the book together this year.
"It was the right thing to do. It's gone
over very well, better than we expected.
It's helped out others with their books (on
the Donnellys) and it's selling out in the
Family "packrats" saved old Donnelly clippings
put out by the Free Press had also probably
been in his family.
Prior to publication he said he and Ed
Phelps, the publisher had spent about two
nights putting the book together.
He said he had thought about putting a
book together a couple of years ago, but
forgot about it, then recently suggested the
idea to Mr. Phelps. He said the fact that
this was the centennial of the tragedy
"definitely" had something to do with
stores," Mr. Cosens said.
Asked why he thought his family had
saved so much on the Donnelly murders he
said, "They were just packrats. My
grandfather saved a lot of things."
"I've been interested in the Donnellys
for 25 years, ever since Tom Kelly put out
his book 'The Black Donnelly's."
Mr. Cosens said he had met people who
knew the Donnellys, but unfortunately
didn't take down what they told him at the
time.
