UP FRONT
Up Front will be a little different than the usual this month
because this is a little different than most issues of Village
Squire. This will be the last issue of the magazine that will see
the Roulstoh family as publishers.
Beginning with your February issue the magazine will be
published by McLean Brothers Publishers Limited. The mailing
address will still be Blyth only Box 10, not R.R.113. We know that
readers will be well served by the new owners A.Y. McLean and
Susan White and their staff because we've already seen the fine
job they have done since taking over our farm magazine The
Rural Voice a year ago.
Actually there won't be a complete split with the magazine for
us. Your editor will still be sitting on the editorial board for the
magazine which will decide what subjects will be included in
each issue and will still be contributing columns.
It's a hard decision to let the magazine go. Since its birth in
April of 1973 the magazine has been like a favourite child. While
we once owned four different publications, Village Squire always
had a special place in our affections. But like a child who grows
up and must leave the home, the time has come for us to
relinquish the magazine to other hands. Running a magazine
takes a lot of creative drive and energy, energy that after nearly
seven years of meeting deadlines and struggling through early
financial problems has disappeared for the present publishers.
Rather than see the magazine suffer, we felt it was better to turn
it over to someone with new energy to make the magazine realize
its full potential for the good of you. the readers.
What's ahead for the publishers? Well mother publisher will
be able to spend more time with her real family. Papa publisher
will be giving more time to his other "favourite child" the Blyth
Summer Festival in the capacity of administrative director, as
well as, hopefully, finding more time in the winter months to
write which has been his ambition for more than a decade now.
Thank you all for the very unique experience we've enjoyed in
publishing this magazine. We doubt any publishers could wish a
more loyal and supportive readership. Thanks also to the many
people who have contributed writing to the magazine over the
years. As we enter the new year may we wish you all a happy
new year.
