HURON COUNTY FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE
DIRECTOR'S AND MEMBERSHIP MEETING
NOV.3, 1977, O.M.A.F. OFFICE, CLINTON.
The directors elected four of their members to the county
executive committee; John Van Beers, Hullett; Gerry Fortune,
Turnberry; Bill Pullen, Morris and Jim McIntosh, Tuckermith.
Bev Brown outlined the structuring of the PLUARG (Pollution
from Land Use Activities Reference Group) panels. This consists of
several groups of citizens holding investigative meetings into land
based pollution of the Great Lakes. These panels were set up by the
International Joint Commission (I JC) and the panels will report to
the IJC, who will use the findings to formulate policies to combat this
type of pollution.
The Huron County Federation of Agriculture brief to PLUARG was
presented by Merle Gunby of the Land Use Committee and was
discussed by the members present.
Gerry Thiel, Hay Township, wanted help from the county land use
committee, to help in preparing a brief for the summary workshop on
their township's secondary plan.
Twenty hats were bought with the OFA crest on it; these hats can
be purchased at the Fed. of Agric. office in Vanastra .for $3.00.
Several OFA policy papers were discussed as background material
for the delegates to the Annual Convention, Nov. 28, 29 and 30th in
Hamilton.
Adrian Vos explained the OFA proposed levy system -every farmer
paying a levy on his property taxes to finance the OFA operations.
Because of inflation and increased costs, the present financial base is
too small for the OFA to operate effectively on behalf of farmers.
The OFA Corn Marketing Proposal was discussed as well as the
OFA position on Trade and Tariffs.
