The Rural Voice, 1979-06, Page 16Here they are! Rural Voice jumped on the Year of the Child bandwagon this month with our contest, searching out the best in kids' art and stories from our readership. More than 100 entries were received from children aged from five to 16 who live in many parts of Bruce, Huron and Perth counties. First place winners, and as many of the others as we had room for are reprinted on these pages of Rural Voice. Judges had an extremely hard time selecting winners, and in many classes picked honourable mentions as well as the top money winning entries. First -,second and third place winners will be receiving cheques in the mail from Rural Voice later this month. In the art category, winners in the 13 to 16 age group, all from Brookside School, Lucknow, were, in order, Janet Naylor, Donna Freeman and Judy Carmichael, with an honourable mention to Nancy Penfound of R.R.1, Auburn. Top artists aged from nine to 12 were, again in order, Margaret Ryan of R.R.1, Dublinfover artist Doug Weishar of R.R.2, Mildmay and Kelly Oliver of Box 17, 1 The winners of Rural Voices's kids' contest Millbank. Honourable mentions were awarded to Debbie Bigam of Millbank, Mike Niesen, R.R.5, Mildmay, Manny Gomes, R.R.1, Walton, Mike Kunkel, Mildmay and Gayle Harrison, R.R.1, Seaforth. The best artists aged five to eight were Shoanna Martin, Goderich, Brenda Finch, R.R.1, Clinton, and Dean Nott of Hullett Central School. Winners in the poetry classes, again in older of placing were, ages five to eight: David Kelly, R.R.5, Seaforth, Kelly Schoonderwoerd, R.R.5, Clinton, Jeromy Ten Hag, R.R.1, Auburn; nine to 12; Mary Driedger, R.R.3, Chesley, Peter Brand, R.R.2, Bayfield, Angela van den Elzen, R.R.1, Clinton and 13-16; Nancy Penfound, R.R.1, Auburn. Winning story writers in the age five to eight class, many of whom accompanied their entries with illustrations were, in order, Anne Robinson, R.R.4, Walton, Karsten Carroll, Seaforth, and Cheryl Storey, Seaforth. Honourable mentions were awarded to Michael Essery R.R.5, Clinton, Cathy Carter, R.R.2, Seaforth and Tracy Roth, Seaforth. Top story writers in the nine to 12 age group were Peter Brand, R.R.2, Bayfield, Debbie Riddell, R.R.1, Newton and Paul Streicher, R.R.4, Listowel, with honourable mentions to Danny Illerbrunn, R.R.2, Mildmay, and Kevin Johnston, R.R.2, Bluevale. Winning stories in the 13 to 16 class, again in order, were written by Debbie Wiederman, R.R.4, Walton, Karen Beecroft of Brookside School, and Jeanne McDonald of R.R.2, Brussels with an honourable mention to Judy Carmichael, of Brookside. d,M44,6 M 41-51 A By Anne Robinson, 8, Walton My cat Bottons and her Kittens My cat Bottons had kittens a couple of weeks ago. Just the color in the picture. The black and white kitten is my sister Jane'; Kitten. The pure gray kitten is my kitten. And the dark striped kitten is my brother Brents kitten and the light gray striped kitten is my brother, Jeffs kitten. The big cat is the mother and everbody owns her! Jane is calling her kitten Petunia. I am calling my kitten Bandit. Brent is calling his kitten Bruiser, Jeff is calling his Alice, My kitten is a girl. Jeffs kitten is a girl. Janes kitten is a girl.
