Magistrate's Court

There was an unusually large docket
before Magistrate A. A. Winter on
Thursday last, seventeen rases being
dealt with. There were seven con
vlctions, eight adjournments, clue
charge was dLmissed and one with-
drawn.
Ball 1a tits sum of $2,000 was re-
newed for W. W. Thomson, of Toron-
to, formerly of Seefurth, charged with
fraud, and the case was adjourned
three weeks. It is alleged Thomson er
cured a loan on a $2,100 life insurance
policy. claiming It war free of en-
cumbrance, whereas be had obtained a
loan previously on lt. R. H. Sanford,
of Seaforth, loaned Thomson $1,500 on
his representation of the policy.
A Toronto boy, summering at Grand
Bend. pleaded guilty to four charges
of theft from cottages and tents at the
rummer revert. The loot, winch In-
cluded a club -bag, two shirt~. two pale
of trousers, a suit coat, ties, rucks, two
pairs of shoes and small sums of mon-
ey, was valued ■t nearly $50. It was
recovered. The boy was remanded for
a week for sentence.
"Just whatever you think 1s fair,"
was the attitude of Everett Stlbbins,

charge of having liquor in • public
place was read and be pleaded guilty.

That was all right, too. He
pleaded guilty and asked if the time
could be dated back to the day elf his
arrest- It could, and was. and SUbbins
has only about twenty of the thirty -
day sentence to serve.
He pleaded guilty to a second charge,
of drunk driving, and was sentenced to
fourteen days in jail, concurrent with
tbe previous sentence.
A local young man pleaded guilty to
a charge of consuming liquor in a pub-
lic place and the minimum penalty of
$10 and costa was imposed, as be had
never been In trouble before.
Never in Court Before?
The following record was read
against Roy Ebel. vagrant, who claimed
to be In court for the first time: July
13, 1921, twelve to thirty-six months at
Llatowel for theft; November 5,
1920, sentenced at Windsor for va-
grancy ; March tri, 1927, three months
definite, twelve Indeterminate, at Wind -
aur for false pretence*: December 27,
192X, convicted at Windsor on three
charges of breaking, entering and
theft, and sentenced to three years in
the penitentiary; January 19;1932, six
months at Windsor for vagrancy ; De-
cember, 21, 1934. suspended sentence at
Kitchener for vagrancy.
Ile was picked up on August 9th for
begging and bring abusive and using
profane language. Ebel asked for a
ten-day sentence, dating back to the
day of his arrest. He got the ten days,
but It dated from Thursday last and
was accompanied by strict orders to
shake the Must of Huron county from

his heels.
Bolmervtlle, are charged with driving
recklessly. The charger were ad-
journed two weeks, as Mrs. Huller,
who was seriously Injured In the crash,

A charge against T. Arthur Kern, of
London, of speeding through an in-
tersection, preferred by County Tve Sie

"I am going to ask for a further re-
mand of two weeks," said Crown At-
torney Holmes, when John J. Huggard,
Seafortb lawyer, charged with the
theft from IIs clients of $150.000, was
called. The remand was granted,
without bail, by His Woresip.
Three chargee arising out of the fail-
ure of John Cuthbertaon, painter, to
pay the wages of his hired men, were
adjourned two weeks. The hired men
entered claims under the Masten' and
Servants' Act, for payment of wages,
■nd in order to pay them Cuthbert -
son asked that a woman residing at
Bayfield be ordered to pay him so he
could pay his men. The Bayfield lady,
however, assured the court Cuthbert -
son had not fulfilled hes contract.

A London man will appear before
Magistrate Winter this ' (Tbarsday 1
afternoon charged with the theft of
flowers from the island bed •t the
corner of Waterloo and Montreal
streets. It lr said the man was re-
turning from a dance at the Pavllisu
with some friends when be stopped a,
the flower bed: got out of the car and
ripped out • number of flowers. The
license number of his car was taken
and he was charged forthwith.

just outside of Lucknow on the Luck -
now -Dungannon road on Saturday night.
The extent of his injuries has not
been determined as yet. but It 1s un-
derstood the young man has a serious
back Injury.
The accident occured about 11 o'clock
Saturday night, during a violent elec-
trical storm. Bert Thompson, of holy
rood, who was with Mr. Smith and
escaped with bead injuries, said they
were blinded by a brilliant flash of
lightning. Before their eyes became
accustomed to the following darkness
the car struck the lett wheel of A
buggy driven by Robert Andrew, of
Zion, Ashfield township. The wheel
war ripped from the buggy, but the
driver and his wife, who was with him
in the buggy, were uninjured. The car
got out of cootrol and turned completely
over, end for end, when a wheel
dreeine1 over the edge of the road

"Ted" Smith 1s well known in Go¢

who knew him during his brief period

by disorderly conduct, preferred
against a ketal young man by his un-
cle, was diautased when the complain-
