The Ontario Federation of Agriculture's
Hamilton Convention was a chance for
grass roots farmers to question their
leaders on last years activity. and help plan
for the next year. Resolutions submitted by
County Associations and Individual Service
Members were presented for action by the
convention. The resolutions that passed
will require the action of the Federation
during the next year. Those attending the
convention were briefed on the Canadian
Federation of Agriculture take-over of
Canfarm. Canfarm is a computerized farm
planning and record keeping service.
Within a period of just five weeks. O.F.A.
put together a complete program to save it
and C.F.A submitted a detailed proposal to
the Federal Governmef t to take over this
multi-million dollar operation. They
secured a lint of credit of several million
dollars, established the frame work and the
by-laws of a new national co operative
controlled by larni organizations and
established an interim management team.
Peter Hamman. looking ahead' to the
coming year stated "As we enter 1979, 1
see farmers operating in a pressure cooker.
The pressures are bearing down on all
sides." He pointed out that Government
priority for agriculture is very low. In 1978,
for example. the Government of Ontario
gave Ford seventy million dollars to
establish a plant in Windsor. Those
subsidies amounted to nearly half the
entire agricultural budget. Last week.
Federal Government officials announced
postal subsidies to the Canadian Book
Publishing industry of '125 million: that
would run O.M.A.F. for almost one year
Putting these budgets into perspectives.
Peter stated "It's astounding that we have
to face that sort of discrimination and
short-sightedness and half hearted sup-
port "
The I.S.M. membership fee has been
increased to $50.00 for annual renewal and
$45.00 for automatic members. To balance
this. the Federation has committed them-
selves to more activity. They are also
offering more services to members. Group

culture is going to hold Township meetings
in every township in 1979. These meetings
will start in February 1979. We hope that
by re -activating the township committee's
we will get more response for director s
at the county level.
Next month a three month schedule of
township meetings will be given in the
