NEWSLL?TII
The Bruce County Federation of Agri-
culture held three meetings since the last
report. The directors met in the OMAF
board room Walkerton, October 23rd.
Preliminary plans for our annual meeting
were drawn up and a list of guest speakers
to be invited was made. Unfortunately
because of the importance of our hoped for
guest speaker none of these plans can be
confirmed at this time. If we get the man
we are after we will have a packed hall. An
ad hoc committee to promote future
township meetings was formed. The
members of this committee are, Don
Ahrens, R.J. Cobean and Roy Pennington.
On November 2 the executive director of
the Federation met in the Federation
offices in Hanover. The topic was again the
annual banquet. Arrangements were
firmed but still cannot be confirmed until
we are sure of our guest speaker.
A members meeting was held in
Walkerton November 8. The purpose of
this meeting was to give local members a
chance to study the convention resolutions
and advise their deligates their wishes on
these resolutions. Each resolution was
read, discussed and voted on. The result of
this meeting will be a guide to Bruce
County deligates to the convention in
Hamilton.
At this meeting Brian Ireland stated he
wished to donate an award for "The farmer
of the year in Bruce County. Brian stated
that the people of Bruce County and the
Federation had been most kind to him and
his family during the past year and he
wished to donate the award as a thank you.
He asked the Bruce County Federation of
Agriculture to assume selection of this
award on an annual basis and form the
committee to make the award. He and his
wife Giselle would donate the main trophy
and keeper award for the first year. The
Federation accepted his proposal. It is too
close to our annual banquet to make a
selection this year, but watch for the
winner of the "Bruce County Farmer of the
Year" award in 1979.
