that the record was at best only mediocre and Mr. Trudeau had
lost his questionable effectiveness and appeal.
The next section was devoted to Joe Who but he has finally
become known as Joe Clarke and has at least a slight possibility
of being our next Prime Minister.
However, according to the article the writer feels this would
have little real affect on our economy, unemployment or
inflation.
Throughout the article I got the impression that the writer was
definitely a supporter of the Liberal party. He also seemed to be
dissatisfied with the present state of affairs in Canada so he
slated that he would probably vote for Joe Clarke.
A remarkable decision!
He had already made it clear that he didn't think Mr. Clarke
and his Conservatives would be any improvement. In other
words, you vote for the "devil" you don't know in preference to
the "devil" you do know.
What really amazed me was the fact that the New Democratic
Party and Social Credit Party were never mentioned.
Granted that the Social Credit Party is having a hard time
within their part but they did hold the one seat involved in the
by-election.
The New Democratic Party not only held their seat in the
by-election but gained another in Newfoundland where they had

never had a member before. More impressive still was New
Democratic Party gain in the popular vote. Certainly they are a
factor in our government and could very well hold the balance of
power in the next government of Canada.
On top of this the New Democratic Party was returned to
power in Saskatchewan with a larger majority than before.
Certainly the New Democratic Party can't be swept under the
rug by ignorance or can it?
As the minister said "Finally!"
Strikes! Again it is the postal strike!
Ordinarily we ship hogs every Monday morning and get the
cheque for them the following Monday morning in the "mail".
This is our weekly pay cheque that buys the weekly groceries and
pays farm expenses.
We shipped pigs on Oct. 9th and haven't received payment yet
and I don't expect it will come until our transporter brings it back
after he delivers our pigs on Monday the 23rd. Ih other words our
pay cheque is a week late.
Is there any other industry that would put up with this kind of
nonsense?
The government went to great lengths to make sure that
welfare and unemployment cheques were available within • easy
driving distance.
Are farmers supposed to fast for a week and will their creditors
do the same?
