By Gerry Fortune A 40' x 64' building will house facilities for the Federation at this year's Plowing Match. Both Provincial and County executive members along with volunteer I.S.M.'s will be on hand during the week. An office -type trailer will also be situated on the site to provide a place for those manning the facilities to take a brief break occasionally. Detailed arrangements appear to be well in hand. Organizers hope visitors to the Plowing Match will drop in at the Federation booth. OFA BOARD OF DIRECTORS' MEETING. AUGUST 16, By Jim McIntosh Michael Starr, addressed the meeting. The Chairman of the Workman's Compensation Board stressed the importance of farm safety and the fact that his Board funds nine safety associations in the Province of Ontario. Mr. Starr stated that the Workmen's Compensation Board. if requested. would provide speakers for meetings or for participating in group seminars. The 1979 compensation rates for farm workers will again be lowered to $2.10 and $3.15 depending on the rate group. Farm worker claims for 1977 numbered 2,100 which is only about 0.5% of the total claims handled by the Board. Line Fences Act The line fences Act which has received first reading in the Ontario Legislature has been referred back to the Counties by OFA for further discussion at County level. If you are interested in the proposed changes, contact either your I.S.M. Director or come to the next County Meeting on September 7 at the Huron Centennial School. The line fences act will be reconsidered at the September 20 OFA Directors Meeting in Toronto. Farmer Price Index OFA President, Peter Hannam stressed the importance of the information made available in the OFA Farmer Price Index. For July, the Farmer Price Index for all products monitored dropped by nearly 2%. whereas the Consumer Price Index for Food. which is prepared by Statistics Canada showed an increase of nearly 2%. Therefore the total increase was at the wholesale and retail level rather than at the producer level.
