Warden Bowman Reports High-
ways Debt Behlrg Rapids -
Reduced
The June session of Duron county
council opened at the court house on
Tuesday afternoon. All tbe members
were present, and although the day
was cloudy Warden R. J. Bowman
painted a very rosy outlook for the
year.
"In January," he said, "1 asked you
to carry on at a 5',4 -mill rate to wipe
pa .IA1e xlr wprs is
debt to the extent Oi '1'he
treasurer estimates that with the 5',4 -
mill rate the debt will be decreased
to $7,500 by January of 1937."
Mr. Bowmau also stated that the
county had obtained a lower rate of
bank Interest, It having been reduced
from 5 per cent. to 41 per cent.
He pointed out that hospital costa
for indigent patients were $20,000 an-
nually.
"The best piece of legislation we
ever passed was when we' charged
back halt of the curt to ,the munici-
palities," he geld.
The Walden alefriordsted oat the
treasurer's estimates showed Increases
In old age proximo, $St15, and moth-
ers' allowances, $4,500. He stated,
however, that the county roads needed
more money. Eight additional miles
were taken over last year, machinery
had been replaced and trucks Dow
In use were old.
'What we shall have to decide," he,
eeattaued, "is whether we are to carry'
on at the 51/2 -mill rate or spend more
money on the roads, wbleb will ralae
the rate."
The Warden concluded with tbe sug-
gestion that all resolutions be sent
to a committee for consideration be-
fore being dealt with. Some, he
polated out. were worded Improperly
and were therefore useless, as they
did not convey the desired meaning.
After the reeding and adoption of
the minutes of the last session. the
clerk matted around copies of the orig-
inal and proposed new creat of the
comity, for approval of the euunct.-
lora.
Ross Johnston, of Zurlcbv rnborer

lege of organizing a swimming class
for mornings at _ a nominal fee.
A pleasing part of the program was
