The committee is calling a random sampling of these boards, commissions and institutes. together as part of its drive to get rid of outdated rules. regulations and bureaucracies. Probably the organization that will come under the most tire however. is the Ontario Food Council which has been strongly criticized for its lack of action to investigate rebates among food suppliers. wholesalers and retailers. Among its critics are NDP farm critic Donald MacDonald of Toronto. Peter Hannam of Guelph. president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. and Peter Lindley. president of the Ontario Fruit anti–Vegetable Growers Association. MacDonald-. id the food council "may ZWAAN' S WELDING AND EQUIPMENT Bldg. 25 Winnipeg Rd. MacDonald was most angered however, by the excuses offered by food council chairman Doug Williams for not making the inquiry into the rebates. Williams said he had no specific complaints to investigate and lacked funds to launch a fishing expedition. William Newman. , Minister of Agri- culture and Food said he opposes a full-scale inquiry of the rebates issue because it would be costly and the food industry has already undergone a number of studies. MacDonald said the point was that "we've had study after study because nothing has been done."
