enough from the garden to do a whole
batch of pickles here's a recipe for dills that
will remedy that.
One Jar at a time dills
Wash and pinch with a fork enough
cucumbers to fill a quart jar.
Add sprig of dill and clove of garlic.
Add 1 cup vinegar, 1/2 cup salt and fill
with cold water.
Twist the I.id tight and shake well.
Store for a few weeks for the best in dills.
Nine Day Pickles
8 qts. small cucumbers, cut in pieces.
Rit in a brine (now iodized salt) that will
float an egg. Leave for 3 days.
Drain and put in cold water for 3 days
more. stirring every day. Drain again and
let simmer for I hour in a weak vinegar (5c.
vinegar to 15 c. water) to which add a piece
of alum size of a walnut. Drain adn make a
syrup of 41/2 lbs. white sugar, 4 pts. cider
vinegar. In bag 1 oz celery seed. 1 oz
allspice buds, 1 oz cinnamon sticks
Pour over cucumbers boiling hot 3 days
in succession. Store in crock covered with
the vinegar. Remove the spice bag when
desired.
Pickled cherries
(8 Pints)
Will eight pint sealers with firm washed
red or black cherries. with stem attached.
Bring to a boil for 5 minutes.

4 cups cold water
