Markham Fair Grounds was the scene of the first ever Sheep
Focus on July 14 and 15. drawing together producers. breeders,
spinners. weavers and suppliers - all facits of the sheep industry
in Ontario.
Sponsored by the Ontario Sheep Association and the Western
Ontario Lamb Producers Assoc. (WOLPA). Sheep Focus was
officially opened on Friday evening by MPP Jack Riddell. a
former sheep producer .
Chris Williams. Secretary of the Ontario Sheep Association
said his group was most happy with the results of their first
attempt to hold a province wide show which would attract
producers as well as consumers. "We figure that close to 1000
people attended the 2 -day event" Chris said. "Over 400 sheep
and Iambs were sold during the Saturday sale at an average price
of$119.This is $30. more per animal than the 1977 sales of 300
sheep and lambs." In all Likelihood. Sheep Focus will become an
annual event.
Walter Renwick. a well known Huron County sheep breeder
and past President of the Ont. Sheep Assoc.. sold 70 bred ewes
at the sale on Saturday. These were guaranteed 90% to Iamb in
