The Rural Voice, 1978-07, Page 18Mr. Smith also said that cattle should be
kept out of woodlots because they trample
small trees and compact the soil.
He recommended that woodlot owners
should have one to one -and -a -half acres •of
bush for each cord of wood he expects to
use each winter in order to heat a home.
The number of cords of wood required to
heat a home varies widely depending on
the insulation in it and the temperature
desired by homeowners.
Mr. Smith told the group that MNR has
some woodlot management programs in
which the woodlot owner may be eligible to
have MNR do the work free.
