The Rural Voice, 1978-07, Page 13Hemingway has, he's not losing that much heat out of the building. Mr. Fleming said he knows of one other solar heated livestock operation in Embro that has been going for a year longer than Mr. Hemingway's and there were at least one or two m$re being planned in this general area. There really hasn't been that much done in farm buildings in Ontario. Most of the solar heating has been in the area of grain and corn drying, Mr. Fleming said. He thought that in the future more people would be into solar energy but to a lesser degree. Only One Tony McQuail, project co-ordinator of the Lucknow Energy Conservation Centre said that Mr. Hemingway's barn is as far as he knows the only solar heated hog barn on that scale in Huron County. Different kinds of material such as transparent polyethelene or glass can be used but Mr. McQuail said the fiberglass is longer lasting than plastic polyethelene, and it's lighter than glass and easier to work with. "1 think if anyone is putting one (a barn) up in which they're goi ng to need extra heat, solar is very much worth considering," Mr. McQuail says. Scientific knowledge has always played a great part in devising new and better methods of helping the farmer and that knowledge has helped Neil Hemingway to have what is for now, a unique livestock heating system in Huron County. ***If** 44, -******************4 - FARMERS DISC'S PLOWS, CULTIVATORS & TRACTORS A NEW McKEE EBRO 3 models to choose from: 350, 45 h.p. 460, 57 h.p. 470, 67 h.p.
