part of the national park, but is offering
only half of what a private sale could
bring. Scott said an appraised value f
the land is higher than any offer receiv-
ed to date.
He said the county forests would bring
more economic benefit to Bruce as part
of the parr than as :private land, and
added the county its "much better" at
recon the economic importance of
the natural environment that Public
Works Canada is.
Negotiations for the sale of the land
are continuing, with Brad Davis, St. Ed -
r mds Township reeve at the head of the
county negotiating team.
ALMOST A YEAR OFF IN OVERTIME
Strong feelings about overtime and pay
equity surfaced when the Bruce County
finance committee presented its report to
county councillors on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Short staffing was blamed for the 302
days off in lieu of overtime accumulated
by the plaiming director and the .592
hours owed to the deputy planner.
Milt McIver, finance chairman, recom-
mended the director and deputy be given
18 months to_use up their overtime, but
council rejected the idea as too expensive
and mathematically impossible. Council
will now have to come up with a better
solution to the long standing problem in
January A new policy now limits time
off accumulations to a maximum of 10
days a year.
Meanwhile, Bruce is filing for an exten-
tion to develop it pay equity plan.
"1 admit things haven't gone
smoothly," McIver said. He noted pro-
blems getting job descriptions from some
departments, but rejected a call from
Bert Perkins, Port Elgin reeve, to hire a
consultant to do the job.
What irks me," McIver said, "is you
aren't giving us cooperation to do the job
properly. Just give the committee a
chance. A consultant isn't the end all and
be all."
Later, McIver said pay equity is a
touchy issue, and council needs the time
to handle it and overtime issues in a
manner fair to its employees.
"We're just another municipality going
through a pay equity exercise."
The new deadline for the county's pay
equity plan, of approved by the province,
will be March 31, 1990.

On December 14 the Guides made
"elves" for their Christmas trees and
braided leather bracelets.
At the Santa Claus parade they dress-
ed as elves and prepared to walk the
parade route. Fortunately, they were of-
fered a wagon ride at the last minute
and won prize! Thanks to our driver Bull.
On December 15 the group went carol
singing on a hayride.
Next week members will go bowling
for their Christmas party.
