Porter Holdings, put up a spirited effort against a very strong Ripley Atom A team in Lvncknow on December 2. The final score was 74 in favour of Ripley. Lueknow, however, clearly had the edge in play and had a greater number of shots on net than Ripley. The Ripley goalie, Jason Reed, was exceptional in turning back Lucknow's efforts. At the end of the first period, Ripley was ahead by two goals notwithstanding Lucknow's edge in the play. The first Lucknow goal came with 10 minutes left in the second period when Mike Paddy scored assisted by Luke SprouL This was the first goal of the second period. Unfor- tunately, Ripley followed with three more goals to pull way out in front and it was not until the 1:28 mark of the second period that Lucknow again scored when Jeff Porter counted a goal with an assist going to Lee Drennan. At that stage, Lucknow was down five goals to two. The deep hole the Lucknow boys had dug themselves into was impossible to climb out of even though in the third period they managed to match Ripley goal for goal. Jeff Porter opened the scoring in the third period with a second assist going to Lee Drennan. This was at 13:24. Ripley scored twice more and then Lucknow again scored in the dying minute of the game with only 46 seconds left to go when Ed Courtney assisted by Stuart Rintoul brought Lucknow within three goals of the Ripley tea. Lucknow demonstrated that they can skate with Ripley and with a better bounce on 4. v puck may have a better S PORTS result against them the next time they meet. TEESWATER STYMIES ATOM A'S The Atom A's took on Teeswater in a road game on December 5. Tyler Brooks and Curt Humphrey played exceptional- ly well in goal and held the score down to four goals for Teeswater. Unfortunate- ly, the Lucknow scoring touch didn't come with them from their home arena and they were only able to score two goals. Teeswater scored 'the only two goals of the first period and the third period. Lucknow posted the first of their two markers at 6:35 of the second period when Jeff Porter dashed the length of the ice in a spectacular unassisted goal.' With three minutes left in the period, Craig Moffat assisted by Ed Courtney tied up the game. In the third period, Lucknow could not keep up their attack and Teeswater pressed their skating advantage and broke the tie with two unanswered goals. An interesting feature of this game is that in the first five minutes, Lucknow was all around the Teeswater net and with any luck should have vaulted into an early lead. This was not to be the case on December 5 against. Teeswater but the Lucknow Atom A's luck will turn and soon there will be more checks in the win column. The Period ended 5 - 3 for Teeswater. The third period saw Teeswater add one more to make a final score of 6 - 3 for Teeswater. Referee Pollock kept the game under control by handing out several roughing penalties. Apologies to Jamie Johnston for miss- ing his name from the player's list last week. Novice house league. plays On Thursday December 7, Lucknow Novice travelled to Belmore for their fouth game of the year. Belmore scored a single goal in each period, taking a 3-0 lead. Although Lucknow played good ag- gressive hockey, they just couldn't find the net. Countless :times they came within inches of scoring but weren't able to get by the Belmore goalie until with two minutes left in the game, Lucknow's sharpshooter Daryl Aitchson kept his scoring streak alive with the help of Rob- bie McGee. Final score Belmore 3-Lucknow 1. Other members of the Lucknow team are Jordan Andrew goalie, Adam Cameron 2nd goalie, Justin Brown, Jeff Cranston, Jeff Havens, Sean Lougheed, Dennis Lubbers, Nicholas Mann, Conor McDonagh, Rickey Steward, John Van DiRichard Walke and Mike Wyndham. The next scheduled game will be December 15 when Lucknow's bus travels to Ayton. • LOOK WHATMrs.O Ryan s Pillow Factory has to offer *Handmade pillows *:Dowixfilled Duvets *Solid wood dinettes, buffets & hutches *Quality mattresses to fill every need from $ 5900 *Bedroom furniture • *0 ecorated Cushions Many special 'Christmas gift giving ideas!
