Lucknow Midgets participated :in the
Regional Silver Stick tournament in
Wingham on the weekend. Game one Fri-
day evening saw Lucknow face off
against Zurich, with Paul Helen :in net for
Lucknow.
Zurich opened the scoring and the first
period closed 1 - 0 in Zurich's favour.
Lucknow came alive in the second
period and netted three -goals to come
ahead 3 - 1 to end the second. Goals were
scored by Rod Crich off Donnie Gammie
and Dale Priestap; Adrian Rau
unassisted and Donnie Gammie
unassisted.
In the third Lucknow added two more
off the sticks ,of Donnie Gammie from
Crich and Rau; Rod Crich from Donnie
Gammie and Dennis .Johnston. Good
defensive play and back checking by the
forwards held Zurich scoreless and
Lucknow came home with a 5 - 1 win.
Paul Helen -came up with the puck on
any Zurich rushes. This tease played
together to show that they can be on the
top side of the score.
Game two on Saturday afternoon saw
Lucknow meet Chesley. Goalies Paul
Helm and Mark Dawson shared the net
for this game.
Luclmow's Donnie Gammie opened the
scoring on a pass from Rod Crich.
The Lucknow Bantam A's concluded
last week's hockey with one win and one
loss. Both games were exhibition and
were played against Wingham and Kin-
cardine. The final score went against
Wingham 5 - 2 for Lucknow.
Wingham opened the scoring with the
first but the lead only lasted three
minutes, when Vince .Sticklend put a nice
pass onto Matt Sproul's stick for the tie.
Brad Rhody also drew an assist.
The second period belonged to Lucknow
all the way with three goals. Chris
Stevenson netted the second by taking ,his
own rebound and was assisted by Warren
Andrew and Scott Rintoul. Two minutes
later Chris Humphrey assisted by Matt
Drennan, after much hard work, put the
third away. Stan Kikkert seemed deter-
mined to score and did so, with one se-
cond left on the clock in the second. He
was assisted by Justin Murray and Chris
Stevenson.
The fifth and only goal for Lucknow in
the third was scored by Vince Sticklend
on a break away shot, unassisted.
Lucknow kept Wingham off the board un-
til there was only 19 seconds left in the
game.
Lucknow vs Kincardine
Kincardine beat the Lucknow team
Saturday night with a socre of 5 - 2. With
only 10 men and one or two nearly
always in the penalty box, Lucknow
quickly became tired. This resulted in
Lucknow losing only their second game
this season. With five wins and only two
losses, they will have to chalk this one up
to experience.
Lucknow played a fine first period and
with two and three men in the box for
nearly the whole period kept Kincardine
from scoring until there was only 1:14
left on the clock. It took its toll however,
as 'Kincardine put away four goals in the
second and third periods.
Matt Sproul scored for Lucknow in the
first minute of the second period for the
1 - 1 tie assisted by Vince Stickiend and
Clint Murray. With only 1:53 left in the
game, Chris Stevenson finally connected,
assisted by Justin Murray and Warren
Andrew, making it a 5 - 2 game.
Chesley tied the game to end he first
period.
The second period saw Chesley add two
more to put mow in a tough situation
down 3 - 2 at the end of the period. The
Gammie -R. Sutton line scored the second
Lucknow goal,
The third period saw many penalties
handed out after only three being °called
in the first two periods.
Chesley opened the scoring to take a 4
- 2 lead. With only 45 seconds left Dale
Priestap added one unassisted to bring
this team with one. Lucknow played well
despite being short one for a win.
This team is coached by Cal
McClenaghan, Donnie Irwin, Dave Err-
ington and Evans Helm. After seven
regular season games they have six
losses and two wins, but this weekend
tournament saw the tears make some
good plays.
Team members are: Paul Helm, Mark
Dawson, Lyndon Johnston, Pete Reavie,
Steve Rintoul, Dennis Park, Rod Crich,
Donnie Gammie, Dale Priestap, Adrian
Rau, Russell Sutton, Derek Turner, Dar-
