It would tack an estimated $1, to the price of new homes and apmrb meats to 'help finance school expansion. Trustee mrd Thompson told trustees at their November 7 meeting in Chesley the meetus were useful, but indicated little support for the levies. "The *feeling we got from the municipalities was probably nine to one against lot levies," Thompson said. "if we had to base a decision today on what we heard at those four meetings, it would be no." David Inglis, vice!chairman, said the -meetings indicated "a mutual .feeling of wanting to do something" about educa- tion fling .cuts . by the province. Be said the municipalities and board have to find a way to "take less burden on the local ratepayers and more from the province." He also said the committee "has con- cerns" about the legislation as it is now proposed, and is still reviewing the issue before making a .decision on its stand. Thompson said the municipalities weren't able to offer many ereativ finan- cing alternatives to the board's cash supply problems. "Some of the clerks suggested longer term debentures in combination with a capital reserve fund, which are realistic alternatives," he said. Other suggesti©ns were for a lottery to finance schools, and longer school days or years to make more efficient use of existing facilities. Meanwhile, letters continue to flow in to the board voicing opposition to the lot levy proposal. The latest correspondence comes from Bruce Township, Kincardine, Lions Head, ratepayers in Eldersiie Township and the local teachers' federation.
