Deputy Mire chief Bill -Robinson ` said
the air [unit was donated specifically for
silo rescues but it :can be used in .situa-
tions with sewage manholes or septic
tanks.
He said although the Ripley Huron
fire department has never 4had a :silo
rescue, firefighters have tdi f ici y enter-
ing a silo because the `3 min Ute air
tanks are too big for the "nF3. He
said with the small bottle, winch is
slung across the body, firefighters can
easy :slide through the silo opening.
The 200. foot line attached to .each mit'
allows the firefighter. more time inside
the silo 'where toxic fumes .can :tel a
vermin.
"Compared to the big tank it gives a
lot more freedom," k+ir .*Robinson said.
He said the air lines can also -tiook
together to -form 400 feet for just one
firefighter if it is needed. He added 400
ntinet, Wednesday, y, No ve r 1,1 e 7
feet is usually enough lor two men to

a :ado. The Ontario fire rarshaTs office
also recommends fire departments have
