HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1989-11-01, Page 7Page 6 --L ow :Sentinel, Wednesday,' November 1, 1989 Iroc4sie's principal spent five years in the West Indies Interview with Mr. ' W#hlteley Mr. Whiteley was boron in Toronto, then moved to Seaforth Mr. Whiteley then moved out to the West Indies for five years and then returned to Win- gham. He has taught every grade from kindergarten to grade eight. Some of the schools he taught in before Brook- side include Wingham and Grey Cen- tral. Mr. Whiteley's favourite thing about his job is working with the people and that is what made hum want to become a teacher. He enjoys playing golf and a little tennis. Some of his -hob- bies are fishing, scuba ,diving and being a pilot. From The Principal's Desk We have had a very .busy couple of weeks here at Brookside. Our school -par- ticipated participated in the West Huron Cross Coun- try Race. We had a beautiful day, and our runners gave us reason to be proud. Last week we had Constable Marshall from the O.P.P. in to ,talk to .our entire school about Block Parents. The major event at Brookside is that Mr. Caber has to teach at Goderich District High School for the next ,5.6 weeks. In his absence, Mr. Yeo will take over the Vice -Principal responsibilities. Mrs. Cameron K1 We have been busy finding things in our room that are small, smaller, smallest and big, bigger, biggest. Our trip to Mr. and Mrs. Stooges farm was lots of fun. 'Thank you to Lucknow Co-op for the 'hot dogs, milk and chips. Mr. An- drew gave us a bag of apples when we toured his orchard. 'Thank you! Our room looks spooky with all of our Hallowe'en stuff. Soon we get to plant our class tree on the front lawn of the school. Ms. Makers Grade 1/2 Miss Mathers' Grade 1 and 2 students have been working on Hallowe'en ac- tivities. We are reading and writing scary stories, making spooky pictures and decorating trick or treat baskets. Ms. Watt Grade 1 We are taunting the days until Hallowe'en. We have been busy with Hallowe'en activities, crafts, stories and scary songs. Yeses! We plan to carry a Unicef box to help those not as fortunate as us .and we will be wearing bright col- ours so cars will see us. Boo from Grade One! Mrs. Scott Grade 2 On Friday, October the 6 it was Jonathan's birthday. We have been .doing lots of things with our calendar activities. We have been doing lots of different things with Unicef blocks. Every morning we have a helper up to the front to do the calendar. This week we started to do spelling. On Monday, October the 16 we got a tape tirder. Happy Birthday also to Josh Mlddelkamp, Sheri Faber and Jeevee Dhaliwal. Ms. Morton Grade 3 Grade 3, Room 3 has been working very hard on Math facts these past two weeks. We've been playing Math Bingo to help us. We've been learning how to write. At this time, we know about half the .alphabet. In spelling, we are choos- ing words we want to learn to spell. A couple of us chose Supercalifragilisticex pialidocfous! 'Finally, every time a teacher catches us being good we get a star to decorate and hang from the lights, Soon our classroom will look like the Milky Wayl Mr. Yeo Grade 3/4 Students have been reading monster stories. Monsters were found to live in many places. Each child created a monster, in story form and in picture. Everyone has a partner in either Mrs. Young or Mrs. Cameron's Kindergarten class. Most found their partners were shy, enjoyed being read to and were cooperative. Leaf collections were handed in by Grade 3. Grade 4 pupils adopted and reported on a special tree. We are smearing pastels to make the faces more scary. A group of four people are doing newscasts for the class in Current Events. The Grade 6's had their Math test. They did very well. We had our science test about trees on Tuesday. We will receive our results on Friday. In gym we are playing volleyball. Miss Ren- nie is teaching us how to volley. In Social Studies we are studying the United Kingdom. In Language Arts we are stu- dying Mysteries. Mrs. Webster Grade 6 Mr. Cober will be teaching art at the high school for the next several weeks. Mrs. Webster is our substitute for that time. We are having fun with the "think a-thon". It is a quiz for three teams We add up our score for each team and see who wins. On November 8 we are going to West Wawanosh Nature Centre. Mr. Meyers Grade 7 We've had a busy two weeks in Mr. Meyers six and seven. On Tuesday the 24 we went to the Huron County Museum. We've also been busy as bees doing all the regular work. On Wednesday the 18 we had some guests in the class for our Quest class. We'd like to wish a happy birthday to Joshua Asnong. Mrs. Graham Grade 7/8 This week we started volleyball. On Wednesday the teachers from Wingham and C oderieh High Schools came to visit. It was pretty cool. On Wednesday, Daryl Graham painted a dragon on the school wall. It's really nicel Mr. Harlitt Grade 8 In History Mr. Hazlitt has assigned us to do .a research project on the Loyalists. We are moving along quite well with the help of Mrs. Clarke. In .Art we are doing design work. Gur class has to hand in a Book Bedew at the end of every moth,. We are graded on it. We have a Geography Test next Thursday, November 2. Library, Mrs. -Clarke The Library ICON :cam are hum- ming with story writing, keyboarding and learning programs. Miss Ronnie's Grade O's have two :mystery Centres in the Library, and Mrs. Worsell's novel study group followed up their book The Chocolate Fever, with some unusual finger paint! Mr. Hazlitt's Grade 8's are doing a great job learning research and note -fig skills ale learning about the Loyalists. We enjoyed lasing Mr. Gibson and Ms. with from the high school helping us out on Wednesday!
