S lie, cough, groan. Ari " the office
the last week those three sounds have
been predominant. Yes, we all (three of
us) have the "con unotn cold", as does
half the population of Lucknow.
We have increased our shares in that
famous tissue company, tried out dif-
ferent remedies that •offer to relieve
symptoms associated with the so called
etmimton -cold and commiserated with
each other. 1 should say Phyllis and 1
commiserated with other; Tom simply
gave his explicit instructions to keep our
own private germs in our individual of-
fices as he was having enough problems
with his own.
II hate the fall! 1 always know 1 am go-
ing to come down with a cold. At one
time 1 ° a s.,li and spring. 1 always
knew 1 _.,g to come down with ar
cold in :bots. ,aose seasons. Last spring 1
was fortunate enough to miss the coin -
mon bug that was prevalent in the area.
Having a cold is a waste of time and
goodenergy. The grey matter doesn't
function properly;, the eyes weep ruin-
ing your makeup; the eyes swell and ap-
pear glazed; the nose drips and takes on
the appearance of a piece of raw meat;
the throat aches from those foreign in-
vaders that have found a new home; the
sinus ache; the voice takes on a different
sound making it necessary to inform the
callers that you really are Mrs. Liv-
ingston; hot flashes became common (not
the kind associated with age); stuffed
sinus prevent you from obtaining 'much
needed beauty :steep. in all, you look
and feel like a bag of garbage.
The three of us coming down with the
bug at the same time 'could be looked
upon as fortunate. We will be done with
it, instead of infecting each other over 'a
period Of time. On the other hand, if one
of us was down and out, the other two,
presuming their grey matter is intact,
would be able to cover for the ailing
member of the vrew.

Many "time out" periods are necessary
during the day - to take medicine, take
Bare of the nasal drip and frequent wall
to replenish the glass of fluid you must
have on hand at all times.
Considering we are working in low
gear, we indeed feed fortunate to have
been able to provide you with this week's
paper.

Government applies 3Rs
According to a recent press release
from the Ministry of Government Ser-
vices, Ontario is the first provincial
government in Canada to launch a rnan-
prehensive program to reduce, reust iud
recycle materials in the government
workplace. One of the highlights of the
$11:8 million first phase includes "two-
sided photocopying at all MGS high-
volume copiers to reduce the amount of
paper used." 1 guess this will reduce the
amount of reuseable scrap paper in our
office!
My thanks goes out to Harvey
Wightman who upon discovering a hugh
puff ball brought it to the office to be
recorded on film. The puff ball was 54"
around and weighed 4 lbs. Apparently a
little unusual for this year due to dry
conditions. Wondering where the picture
is? The little goblins got into my idiot
proof camera and proved you can never
rely on anything!
I'll leave you with this little bit of folk
wisdom, taken from 100 Ways to Avoid
Dying according to the Old Farmers'
Almanac: '1f you hear a dog howl at
night, reach under the bed and turn over
a
shoe."??
