An interininistry task force is develop- ing a plan to .streamline services by -early 1990. CARE TOR M(7THERB AND BABIES On June 15, the Minister of Health in- troduced ,.a number ;Of innovative 'pro- grams .:as part of a comprehensive ;net- work - to improve care for mnithers and babies, both during .and after :birth. At a cost of more 11 =42 $2 mullion the Ministry will: ',establish :birthing centres outside ,hospitals so that women ° !ith :lowrrisk pregnancies will ;have more choices in the kind .of :care ..available to them; provide Nome support programs for mothers leaving hospital early .:after un- complicated ,deliveries, and .for those Winging babies hme' from intensive :care nurseries; :support community=based 'health promo- tion programs -which -aim to 'reduce the :number of premature births; and -appoint a :provincial -coordinator .of maternal and newborn health. Traditional hospital maternity care will of course remain in place. KIDNEY DISEASE 'TREATMENT On -June 1 the :Minister rof -Health an- nounced that an =additional '$23 million :would ta put towards the expansion •of the . kidney disease treatment 'program. The expansion :includes the sestablishrnent of at least.75 new :dialysis treatment sta- tions across -the province, and an.4addi- tional $300,000 for the Multiple Organ Retrieval Exchange (MORE), which operates a computerized registry that helps match organ donors with potential recipients. The ' Minister has also -called for pro - ponds for the establbilunent of the pro- vinces second lithotripter, la machine which is able to disintegrate kidney ktones without surgery. Farm machinery dealers musta steer with board The Farm .Implements Act will be pro- claimed Jan. 1, 1990 Ontario Minister of Agriculture and Food David Ramsay an- nounced today. - "The Farm implements Act has been developed in response to the concerns of farmers .and farm implement dealers across Ontario. It Is a progressive piece of legislation and will prove :advantageous to all parties involved in buying and sell - Ing farm machinery," Gainsay said. The act, which received royal assent in December 1988, regulates the sale, ger-- vice, -warranty and safety requirements of farm implements. 3t provides for the return ofdefectivemew farm implements 1 y far hers and for the orderly termina- tion - of dealer=distributor agreements. In order for dealers and distributors to operate in Ontario, they must be registered with the Farm Implements Board by Jan. 1, 1990, Ramsay told the audience at Ontario's largest farm machinery show. The board was created by the Farm Implement Act to register dealers and distributors of farm im- plements, to :mediate disputes between purchasers and dealers or distributors and, to supervise safety measures relating to .farm .implements.
