classroom, the Board of Education is look -
mg at keeping them there year-round.
The issue of a 12.month school year
arae before the Huron County Board ' of
Education (HE) when the board was
apprised of a study into this issue recent-
ly completed by the Ministry of Education.
The 12 -month school "yearhas long been a
vague notion discussed" in Ontario's educa-
tion
ducetion circles, but due to overcrowded
schools insr metropolitan areas and' the need
for school ;hoards to get.mazimum use out

MINISTRY REPORT
The Select .Committee on .Education was
struck on February 11, 1988 to exainine.the
goals and :phdlosophy Of education. Its se-
cond report, Issued at Queens Park June
DM, ' was the focus of the AICBE's
discussion.
The select committee heard from .serious
groups with concerns about the semester
system. The -committee heard that capital
expansion bas not kept up to:need and au:
extended year would allow for better use
of school buildings, and about overcrowd-
ed curriculum and the difficulty of cover-
all :subject within the parameters -of
the "c t school day.

OPP seize drugs
valued over $42,00
During the morning of September 15,
1989, members of the Ontario Provin-
cial Police from Kincardine Detach-
ment, Wingham Detachment and
Mount Forest Crime Unit :aided a
house' in Kinloss Township north of
Whitechurch.
Seized in the raid was a large quan-
tity of marihuana with a street value
of over $35,000.00.
Two Kinloss men have been charged
with, possession of a narcotic for the
purposes of trafficking.
Both men are scheduled to appear in
Provincial Court in Kincardine' on Oc
' 4, 1989, police of-
ficers from- the Ontario 'Provincial
Police and Listowel !Police Force ex-
ecuted search 'and Arrest warrants in
Listowel, Palmerston, Elora, Elmira
and the Tiverton area.
This 'concluded an undercover opera-
tion by the Ontario Provincial Police,
London Drug Enforcement Section,
and. the Listowel Police Force
targeting on street level traffickers in
Listowel.
Marihuana, hashish, lysergic acid
diethylamide (LSD) and psilocybin
(magic :mushroom) with a street value
of $7,300.00, was purchased or seized
during the operation. ;One prohibited
weapon was also seized :as a result of
the searches this morning.
Ten persons have been arrested and
arrest warrants are outstanding for
two persons.
Arrested parties were released on
their own recognizance for Provincial
'Court, Listowel at 10:00 a.m., October
18, 1989 and Provincial Court, 'rancor-
-dine at 10.00 a.m., October 24, 1

Stewart Lane was crowned the Holstein
Dairy Princess for Bruce County at the
Formosa Community Centre on Satur-
day evening. Janet'will have.a busy
year as she is a University of Guelph
student.
