'The company was formed in March of 1989 with Mrs. Caesar as sole proprietor. While she is the •only employee of the c ompany presently, her long term goal is lo have a network or sales people working for her. Mrs. Caesar had always dreamed off hating her own business carrying young thildrent wear, maternity 3e1othes and baby furniture. Ite idea came to fruition a little early than expected, when she was faced withquit' ling her job and ten- ding their wee daughter, Colleen, who at 18 months required major surgery. In the spring this year, she spent a great deal of time searching for a line of band crafted clothes, finally settling on Itarnival Kreations out of London. She recalls that thectic time .and relates the problems .she was having to decide on a name for her business. One evening while reviewing what young Co'Lleen.had been up to that day, the name 'presented itself - lip the. Slide - that was just what Colleen had been doing. g your own business is no easy chore as Mrs. Caesar found out mid sum- mer, when she contacted her supplier who informed her that due to health reasons, a fall line could not be supplied. The search was on again for a new sup- plier with Mrs. Caesar contracting with Rug Rats to provide her fall line. Up the Down Slide offers an exclusive line :of clothing; it cannot he pmrhased in.stores. Articles are high quality, hand crafted, mostly sewn from 100 percent " 4 11 .,0 LIONESS BEAT DUNGANNON cotton. Some articles are an 85 percent cotton, 15 percent polyester blend. AlIL ar- ticles 'fit larger than commercially pur- chased. For example a one year overall fits the same as a 24 month overall. The basic pieces of clothing change for the individual buyer's personal taste. There are different colours to choose from, various trims can he added, buckles or suspenders to give each order a distinct look. The business also carries locally hand crafted baby quilts, a selection of small toys and a line of "See Inside" puzzles, which gives the child two ways of utiliz- ing the puzzle. Presently Mrs. Caesar displays at home parties or open houses for in- terested buyers. Orders are placed and delivered within three weeks. Some time in the future, Mrs. Caesar intends to have e store front location for her business. Mrs. Caesar, a Certified Professional Secretary, is an excellent example of en- trepreneurship in rural Ontario, combin- ing her experience in the banking hi - dusty and financial a, ,01, 'on field to help make her :dream come true. Her long term goal is to build her business to a full time occupation with a network of sales people working for her.
