Ameminn.mialaninimme Take advantage of lost cost rabies clinics
by Pat Livingston
frornpage 4
21 years I know how Us Mind works,
well most of the time.
Number three would be a Molly Maid
to clean windows. Remember last year's
column when I said I would never
wallpaper with Mr. Fitt again. Well, this
is one chore I do not enjoy sharing with
Mr. Fixit, however, I will not go so far
as to say, I will never clean windows
with him In our livingroom one window
requires the strength of a man to TeMOVe
one section.
Last weekend when I asked Mr. Fixit
for the use of his hands and .back for a
short period of time to clean the win-
dows, his reply was, "tam the hose an
them." He enjoys washing windows as
much as I do! Being as they were getting
considerably smudgy, and being as I was
in the mood to clean windows, I DECID-
ED Sunday was window day!
Any of you who have aluminum win-
dows know there is a process to taking
them apart, cleaning the woodwark,
cleaning the alumimun around the win-
dow, polishing the panes and finsilly put-
ting them back together. I cannot and
will not speak .on men in general being
poor ,window cleaners, but I can and will
pass judgment on Mr. FiXit's idea of how
to clean windows. When you say "clean
windows", to Mr. Malt, that is exactly
what he•will do - clean the windows, as
in the pane only. The ahiminaim that
holds the window receives no attention.
"You said to clean the window; you
didn't say clean the aluminum," was his
excuse for having missed one of the steps
involved in this 'chore.
As I am putting the last pieces back in
place, M. Fir& who is perched on a lad-
derioutside, with a rag in his .band, says,
"this one is already clean, why I am I
Sitting here?" lidding my temper in
check,1 replied, 4"1 told you,. the golly
ones you have to clean from the outside
are the outside of these wooden ones that
CANNOT BE REP/LOVED! The rest of
them are cleaned before putting them
back in place! I figured you were just
'sitting there for something to do.'" FWiul
not print here what Mr. Fixit replied.
So, you can see airy I desperately -need
a genie to pop ant from from 'Tide,
Pinesol, Windex - anything! I Will* not be
greedy. If he ,cannot grant three wishes,
'one will do „just fine - please provide me
with a Molly -Maid!

On June 1, 1989, the Health Units of the
County of Bruce and the County of Grey
and the City of Owen Sound
-amalgamated. The new Health Unit is
known as the Bruce-GreyOwen Sound
Health Unit.
In August of 1906, the Bruce County
Board of Health applied to the Minister
of Health for entry into the .Compulsory
Rabies Immunization Program. This ap-
plication was accepted and became law
in Bruce -County on November 1, 1906.
As their ...lune 17, 1989 meeting, the new
Board of Health voted to apply to the
Minister of Heath for the entry of Brace
County, Grey County and the City of
Owen Sound into the Compulsory Rabies
program. The Health Unit has
guaranteed to meet the entry 're-
quirements which include ensuring that
low-cost clinics are available an, an an-
nual basis to all citizens. (Thanks to the
cooperation of the Grey -Bruce Veterinary
Association).
Rabies continues to be a 'threat in
Bruce and Grey Counties. More than 109
cases of animal rabies have been
reported in the Grey -Bruce area this year
compared to 91 last year.
As a result, ,56 people have received
•anti -rabies vaccine after coming in ton -
tact with a rabid animal, Dr. Hazel
Lynn, Acting Medical Officer of Health
for the BruceGrey-Owen Sound° Health
Unit .said today.
Dr. Lynn said that, under the provin-
cial regulation that will become effective
Nuvember 1, 1989 in the two counties and
Owen Sound, it will be compulsory for all
riding horses and all dogs and cats three
months af age and over to be vaccinated
against rabies. The regulation is intend-
ed to protect people from the disease, she
said. Most cases of human anti -rabies
treatments result from contact with cats
and dogs which have been infected by a
rabid wild or domestic animal.
Although vaccinating domestic animals
is the only barrier between rabies and
people, only 40 per cent of dogs and 15
per cent of cats in Ontario are currently
Immunized. More than 50 per cent of
human exposures to the disease occur
from contact with owned, uninununized
dogs and cats - often one's own household
pets.
Special low-cost rabies vaccination
clinics for dogs and cats will be held this
r. Clinic kcations, dates, times and
cost will be made known to pet owners
late September or early October.
An immunization certificate will be
issued to the owner, indicating when and
where the animal was vaccinated and
when the vaccination must be repeated.
In addition, a rabies identification tag
will be provided for each vaccinated dog
and cat. The regulation requires the dogs
and cats be revaccinated on a regular
basis. Pet owners who do not comply
with the regulation are subject to a max-
irnum fine of $5,000.
In the interest of protecting the people
in the community from rabies, the Bruce -
Grey -Owen Sound Health Unit urges dog
and eat owners to meet the regulation by
getting their dogs and cats immunized.
Inquiries regarding this regulation
should be directed to this health unit.
'Thanks to local donations of money and material from area residents, businesses and
service clubs the *II :barn on the Caledonia Park land is nearing completion. The pro-
ject was instituted by the Lucimow Agricultural Society and approximately $6500 has
been raised to date. The 32' x 96' shelter was erected by volunteer labour under the
expert direction of Tom Pegg. Last week the labourers gathered to erect the trusses
and close :the roof in, aiming to have the building completed by fair weekend. (Pat
