To the editor:
Last year, a program was initiated by
the Owen Sound diluent Royal
Canadian Mounted Police, in an 1effort
to combat the cultivation of cannabis
marihuana in the Grey and Bruee coun-
ty area. The program :consisted ,:of a
series of lectures to a variety of groups
in the Greyl.Bruce.area, and was 'follow
ed up with the release of factural infor-
mation through the various media
outlets in the same area. 'The .informa-
tion that was provided to the :general
public through both methods gave an
overview of the problem that :exists
locailly, and further, provided .some
guidelines on how to report any possible
sightings.
deternjned that the highest number of
calls received fro® the public, .came
about as a result of the newspaper and
radio news releases. hi fact, following
the newpaper release 88=08,31, six nails
were received at Owen Sound detach-
ment R.C.M.P. in two days. Five of
these rats resulted in :small amounts of
marihuana seized with two persons be-
ing charged :under the Narcotic Control
Act.
To date this year, Owen Sound detach-
ment has received two mars from
members of the public whieh have
resulted in two small seizures of
marihuana. No charges were laid due to
lack of evidence of ownership.
Given the time of year, and the fact
that the locally grown marihuana will
be harvested in the next two to three
weeks, the R.C.M.P. would 'once again
like to remind the readership of Grey
and Bruce 'counties that this 'type of ac-
tivity is ongoing. In an effort to 'curtail
the potential problems that will no
doubt exist :following the 'cultivation of
marihuana :and •.distribution .locally, the
