It's been
one year!
Today's paper marks another important
date in my life - it has been one year
since I started creating this rambling col-
umn. I am truly amazed that for 51
weeks I have been able to fill this space
with some kind of nonsense.
My IBM thesaurus tells me that the
present participle of the word create is -
to bring into being by mental and
especially artistic effort. These ramblings
were definitely brought about by mental
effort, as in having to do with the grey
matter. There were many weeks it was
sheer mental anguish trying to compile
something to fill this space. Ask anyone
who has worked with me! Quite often
they would hear my plea, "OK what am
I going to write about this week?" Each
week, something would trip in the brain
and I would manage to whip off another
Ramblings.
Now the New World Dictionary defines
artistic as - done skillfully and tasteful-
ly. Hopefully, the columns have been
tasteful; skillful I will question, seeing as
skillful is defined as showing great abili-

ty or proficiency; expertness that comes
from training or practice. Wow!
We'll skip over the great ability or pro-
ficiency. I question the word expertness,
admit to no training but will agree
wholeheartedly with practice. Afterall 51
columns is a lot of practice at something!
The "no training" would be obvious to
a professor of journalism I'm sure. I
often have nightmares about one of them
critiquing my Ramblings. Notice I call
them nightmares. Nightmares are
frightening experiences, often leaving
people oppressed or depressed. In my
case I'm sure it would be depressed. I
visualize myself being verbally torn apart
and left like a wilted soul in front of Mr.
IBM.
But to heck with the professor,- MY col-
umn
olumn is a part of our paper, a paper that
is enjoyed by a large number of readers,
who have been profuse in their kind
remarks. Some of these readers even go
so far as to call and tell me they enjoy
my Ramblings; they find them down to
