of Canada (MDAC) is celebrating .the
20th anniversary of -the Jerry Lewis
Macular Dylitrophy 'Telethon in Canada
this labour Day weekend, September
3rd and 4th, 1909. •
Dave Steen, Canadian decathlon
medalist in the 1988 Olympics, is On-
tario Honorary Chairman for MDAC,
and the brother •and sister team, nine-
year-old Amanda and 14-year.ald
Leonard Valcao of Kingston are Steens
Campaign Assistants. Captain John
Prankard, Ilramptcm, rounds but the
team as MDAC Fire Fighter Chairman.
The Telethon begins at 9 p.m. Sunday,
Septembei 0rd, and runs until 610 p.m.
Monday, September 4th, and will be
carried by the Global Television Net-
work. Hosit site for The production of the
big' show is The Toronto Airport Hilton,
where there will also be a variety of
events for family fun. Hosting this
year's Show will be well known T.V.
host Mike Darow, •and from Global
Loretta Sullivan and Richard Brown.
All money donated to MDAC, whether
through the Telethon or other events,
stays in Canada and is used for the
Association's research and client service
programs. It is estimated that over
20,000 Canadians are affected by
neuromuscular disorders, which are
characterized by wasting and weakening
of muscles.
Teen Circle ladies
Fourteen ladies who formerly ,attended
the Pine River United Church enjoyed a
delicious dinner at the Wingham .Curling
and Golf Club on Monday, August 14. It
had teen 36 years .since the former Teen
Circle ladies held 'their first reunion at
Pollock's Picnic Grounds at Bruce Beach.
Those attending the special 'reunion
were Vifylda Maelfay, Beatrice Collins,
Irene Bradley, Alva Lawry, Lois Pollock,
Myrtle Ferguson, Jean, Noreen and 'Mary
MacDonald, .Norma Campbell, Agnes
Lyons, Allene 33radley, Fern Pollock and
Doris Michie.
Fellowiag the /limier, the ladies went to
the home of g• Michie in 33elgrave
where they -enjoyed a lovely visit and a
short program Readings were given by
old 36th
Beatrice Collins and Allene Bradley.
Doris held an interesting contest with
Lois Pollock emerging as the winner.
Jean MacDonald had the birthday
nearest this date. Several cards were
signed by all for members of the group
who aren't well.
Fern and Harold Pollock celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary at the
Fordwich United Church on August 26.
The next reunion of the Teen Circle
will be held on August 13, 1990 with Mary
MacDonald and .Alva Lowry in charge.
The hostess served refreshments before
the group headed for home. All look for-
ward to attending next year's annual
'reunion.
