South Bruce croup 97 were thrilled to
learn their adopted prisoner of cons-
cience, the Reverend "Fakede Hundesa,
Pastor of the Ethiopian Evangelical
Mekane Yesus Church, has been releas-
ed along with two others who were sup-
ported by AI groups in other countries.
Reverend Hundesa was arrested along
with several )other members of his
thumb, school teachers .and hospital
employees on January 22, 1983 and im-
prisoned without charge or trial.
He is married and has three children.
After being iniprisoned for six and one
half years, his family will be celebrating
his release as well as Al members in
•Lucknow, Pine River, Port Elgin and
Kincardine.
Group 97 has been writing polite letters
to government officials in Ethiopia for
the past five years. Janice Yule, keeper
of the prisoner dossier, estimates local
members have sent almost 1000 letters
requesting information about Rev.
Hundesa. Ruth Bell of Lncknow was the
former keeper of the dossier, for four
years. No replies have been received but,
his does not mean they had no impact.
Although it can never be proven that let-
ters prompt the release of prisoners of
conscience, Al is convinced they help.
Group 97 wishes to *thank all local
residents who have signed_petitions over
the years to help free Rev. Eundesa.
